Check This Out at PAX East!: Slam Bolt Scrappers

**Every night this weekend I showcased an indie game I demoed while at PAX East. Friday night I talked about Swimsanity. Sunday night I talked about Dive Kick**

Take Puzzle Fighter, mix it with Super Smash Brothers and you have Slam Bolt Scrappers. It’s a chaotic game where you have to kill enemies to get blocks and then build weapons by forming squares with your blocks. What makes it tricky is that you have to maneuver your blocks while avoiding attacks from both enemies and other players. Yes, other players. Not only can you attack enemies for blocks but you can also go and harass your opponents while they are trying to build their own weapon battery. Throw in a wealth of power ups, environmental hazards, multiple block colors, and special combo attacks and you get a hectic, fun multiplayer experience.

However multiplayer is all Slam Bolt Scrappers has. The single player campaign is incredibly short and can be completed in one or two hours and strangely the multiplayer mode can’t be unlocked until you’ve played a few stages into the single player. Most of the multiplayer levels, weapons, and characters must also be unlocked by playing the single player as well. This normally wouldn’t be a problem if it wasn’t for the fact that the meat of Slam Bolt Scrappers is its multiplayer. There is also no online multiplayer as well, so you’re stuck playing the AI when your friends aren’t around. Still Slam Bolt Scrappers is a ton of fun and offers a very unique multiplayer experience.

The game has actually already been out for some time on the PSN but Fire Hose Games was at PAX East promoting the game’s recent Steam release. You can pick the game up now on Steam for $10 or $5 on the PSN.
